Century High School was first opened in
the fall of 2001. The school in desperate
search of people to fill clubs that did not
yet exist, started a marching band with
only 18 members.
Season highlights included, scoring a
season high 74.9 at a USSBA sanctioned
competition at Francis Scott Key High
School.
The following fall, Century fielded its first
competitive program with roughly 30
total members.
Season highlights included, 3rd place finish at Chapter V Championships, 6th place finish at MD State Championships, capturing the award for best percussion, and the first ever, first competitive season program to make finals in TOB since the birth of Atlantic Coast Championships.
The fall of 2003 saw the emergence of the schools first senior class. In their second year of competition, century fielded, 31 musicians, 8 color guard, and a drum major to compete in group I competition.
Season highlights included, 1st ever winner of group I Mid-Atlantic Championships, with caption awards for best drum major, best, percussion, best marching, best music, and best visual. The program also captured their first Chapter V Championship flag, winning best marching, best music, best visual, and best percussion. The program then traveled to Scranton, PA to compete at ACC's where the school finished 13th on the coast as a bronze medal finalist.
2004 saw the birth of a larger program. Century jumped to group II in TOB standards. Their show, "The Dream of Flight" was very popular in the chapter circuit and told the story of flight in one childs eyes.
Season highlights include, a 91.8 winning Chapter V Championships in group II, again capturing, best music, marching and percussion.
2005 pushed the envelope in terms of difficulty and overall achievement. The program presented their show, "The Mood of Music", a fast paced poly-rhythmic show with a taste of jazz.
Season highlights include, Chapter V Championship 2nd place finish capturing best marching, drum major, and percussion. Century again traveled to ACC's where they entered in 15th place and left in 13th.
Whats to come for Century? More of the same we hope. This years program, staff, and student base are the best this 6 year member of the program has seen. Only time will tell as we travel the road to adventure...
